This article is about HTML5, the next revision of HTML. For other uses, see HTML (disambiguation).
HTML5 is a markup language that is currently under development as the next major revision of theHTML standard. Like its predecessors, HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.1, HTML5 is a standard for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. This new standard incorporates new features such as video playback and drag-and-drop that have been previously dependent on third-party browser plug-ins, such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Google Gears. New elements have been introduced, such as
<canvas>. New attributes have also been introduced, and some new attributes have been added to existing elements. Many elements and attributes have either become deprecated or obsolete in favor of something else.
