The HTML <ruby></ruby> element was first introduced in HTML5. It defines a ruby annotation (Chinese notes or characters) used in East Asia, to show the pronunciation of East Asian characters. It is to be used together with the <rt> and/or the <rp> elements.

This element consists of one or more characters (that needs an explanation/pronunciation), and a <rt> element that gives that information, and an optional <rp> element that defines what to show browsers that do not support the <ruby> element.

See Standard HTML5 Attributes.

HTML example:

漢 <rt>ㄏㄢˋ</rt>
